Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of Wick Hill Group, said: "The cost of security breaches is extremely high, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is getting tougher on fining companies who do not comply with security standards, and any publicity surrounding security breaches is very harmful," Kilpatrick puts the increasing risk of security 'hiccups' in data management down to the rapid growth of personal mobile devices - businesses haven't been able to introduce effective data management security measures quickly enough to keep up with the changing technology. This presents company IT administrators with a nightmare for the tracking and monitoring of these devices. Research conducted last month by YouGov, and commissioned by Symantec, revealed that more needs to be done by companies to manage data. Employees are struggling to cope with the volume of information that they are now required to deal with and this needs to be recognised in order to prevent security breaches from occurring. |
